NOVENA SAINT JUDE ■ OCTOBER 20-28, 2025
Greetings from the Basilica!
The apostles were ordinary men who, according to the Gospel, left everything and followed Jesus. What the gospel fails to mention is that they never abandoned their humanity; instead, they continued to be imperfect human beings who were willing to follow Jesus in every and any way possible. The apostles became a group that began to grow in friendship with Jesus and with each other.
In the gospels, we see human nature, which relates to attitudes of jealousy, avarice, and dislike of each other. To further educate and lead the apostles, Jesus would take advantage of events where their humanity would surface to teach them about service, humility, forgiveness, prayer, and trust. At the end of Jesus’ life, the apostles dispersed; however, after the resurrection, they came together again and were sent to the ends of the earth to preach and teach the gospel.
Saint Jude, or San Juditas, as people call him with tenderness, was one of the apostles who shared the name with Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Jesus with a kiss. The devotion to Saint Jude Thaddeus has grown over the years due in part to his unwavering faith and dedication to Jesus. Saint Jude’s relic was exhibited in different parts of Mexico last year, where thousands of people approached it with reverence. Many parents ask Saint Jude’s intercession for their children; truck drivers ask him to protect them on their way; businesses pray for his protection; and here at the Basilica, pilgrims pray with devotion to him, asking him to intercede before God for a special favor or a special need.
I pray that all of us, like the apostles, get to know Jesus in depth and learn to walk together looking for the common good in our communities and in the world. We are all pilgrims of hope and through the intercession of Saint Jude Thaddeus may reach heaven one day.
We offer a novena of Masses in honor of Saint Jude. Please send us the names of your loved ones and a prayer for them so we can place your petitions at the feet of the Saint during the novena. ¡Feliz Fiesta de San Judas!
Los apóstoles fueron hombres ordinarios que, según el Evangelio, dejaron todo y siguieron a Jesús. Lo que el evangelio no menciona es que nunca abandonaron su humanidad; ellos continuaron siendo seres humanos imperfectos dispuestos a seguir a Jesús de cualquier manera posible. Los apóstoles se convirtieron en un grupo que comenzó a crecer en amistad con Jesús y entre ellos mismos.
En los evangelios, vemos la naturaleza humana, que se refleja en actitudes de celos, avaricia y desagrado entre sí. Para educar y guiar aún más a los apóstoles, Jesús aprovechaba eventos donde su humanidad salía a la luz para enseñarles sobre el servicio, la humildad, el perdón, la oración y la confianza. Al final de la vida de Jesús, los apóstoles se dispersaron; sin embargo, después de la resurrección, se reunieron nuevamente y fueron enviados a los confines de la tierra para predicar y enseñar el evangelio.
San Judas, o San Juditas, como la gente lo llama de cariño, fue uno de los apóstoles que tenía el mismo nombre que Judas Iscariote, el que traicionó a Jesús con un beso, pero no es el mismo. La devoción a San Judas Tadeo ha crecido a lo largo de los años, en parte gracias a su fe inquebrantable y dedicación a Jesús. La reliquia de San Judas fue exhibida en diferentes partes de México el año pasado, donde miles de personas se acercaron a venerarla con reverencia. Muchos padres piden la intercesión de San Judas por sus hijos; los camioneros le piden que los proteja en su camino; los negocios oran por su protección; y aquí en la Basílica, los peregrinos oran con devoción a él, pidiéndole que interceda ante Dios por un favor o una necesidad especial.
Oro para que todos nosotros, como los apóstoles, lleguemos a conocer a Jesús en profundidad y aprendamos a caminar juntos en busca del bien común en nuestras comunidades y en el mundo. Todos somos peregrinos de esperanza y, a través de la intercesión de San Judas Tadeo, podemos alcanzar el cielo algún día.
Ofrecemos una novena de Misas en honor a San Judas. Por favor, envíenos los nombres de sus seres queridos y una oración por ellos para que podamos poner sus peticiones a los pies del Santo durante la novena. Agradecemos de antemano sus generosas donaciones que nos ayudan a mantener el santuario abierto para los miles de peregrinos de esperanza que vienen cada semana.

ST JUDE PRAYER | ORACIÓN A SAN JUDAS
O most holy apostle, Saint Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus, the Church honoureth and invoketh thee universally, as the patron of hopeless cases, and of things almost despaired of.
Pray for me, who am so miserable. Make use, I implore thee, of that particular privilege accorded to thee, to bring visible and speedy help where help was almost despaired of.
Come to mine assistance in this great need, that I may receive the consolation and succor of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations, and sufferings, particularly (here make your request) and that I may praise God with thee and all the elect throughout eternity.
I promise thee, O blessed Jude, to be ever mindful of this great favour, to always honour thee as my special and powerful patron, and to gratefully encourage devotion to thee. Amen.
¡Oh Santo Apóstol San Judas, siervo fiel y amigo de Jesús!, la iglesia te honra e invoca universalmente como el patrón de los casos difíciles y desesperados.
Ruega por mí, estoy solo y sin ayuda y siento gran soledad. Haz uso te imploro, del privilegio especial a ti concedido, de socorrer pronto y visiblemente cuando casi se ha perdido toda esperanza.
Ven en mi ayuda en esta gran necesidad, para que pueda recibir el consuelo y socorro del Cielo en todas mis necesidades, tribulaciones y sufrimientos, particularmente (hacer su petición aquí) y para que pueda alabar a Dios contigo y con todos los elegidos por siempre.
Prometo, Glorioso San Judas, nunca olvidarme de este gran favor; honrarte siempre como mi especial y poderoso patrono; y con gran agradecimiento hacer todo lo que pueda para vivir bien mi Fe Cristiana. ¡Amén!
