36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go yonder and pray.” 37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons from Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.” 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, thy will be done.” 43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.” 46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”

36 Llegó Jesús con ellos a un lugar llamado Getsemaní, y dijo a sus discípulos: “Siéntense aquí, mientras yo voy más allá a orar.” 37 Tomó consigo a Pedro y a los dos hijos de Zebedeo y comenzó a sentir tristeza y angustia. 38 Y les dijo: “Siento una tristeza de muerte. Quédense aquí conmigo y permanezcan despiertos.” 39 Fue un poco más adelante y, postrándose hasta tocar la tierra con su cara, oró así: “Padre, si es posible, que esta copa se aleje de mí. Pero no se haga lo que yo quiero, sino lo que quieres tú.” 40 Volvió donde sus discípulos, los halló dormidos; y dijo a Pedro: “¿De modo que no pudieron permanecer despiertos ni una hora conmigo? 41 Estén despiertos y recen para que no caigan en tentación. El espíritu es animoso, pero la carne es débil.” 42 De nuevo se apartó por segunda vez a orar: “Padre, si esta copa no puede ser apartada de mí sin que yo la beba, que se haga tu voluntad.” 43 Volvió otra vez donde los discípulos y los encontró dormidos, pues se les cerraban los ojos de sueño. 44 Los dejó, pues, y fue de nuevo a orar por tercera vez repitiendo las mismas palabras. 45 Entonces volvió donde los discípulos y les dijo: “¡Ahora pueden dormir y descansar! Ha llegado la hora y el Hijo del Hombre es entregado en manos de pecadores.” 46 ¡Levántense, vamos! El traidor está a punto de llegar.”
